A recent New England Journal of Medicine article referred to the “parallel pandemics” of COVID-19 and physician burnout. Even before the pandemic, physician well-being was a growing concern in the medical community. Burnout has been shown to lead to a host of issues, from substance abuse and mental health problems to patient safety concerns with the pandemic only exacerbating the stress physicians face. Promoting physician well-being requires a multi-pronged approach. In this session, panelists will discuss the impact of wellness on patient safety and outcomes, the added pressures of COVID-19, and how to support physicians during these difficult times. These experts will explore this complex issue drawing on personal perspectives and the latest concepts to address well-being.
