Join a leading MPL actuary for a discussion of the essential historical and current financial results of the MPL industry, highlighting the primary drivers behind the industry’s current capital position. Karls will explain how MPL companies get more from the data they hold to achieve better results. In addition, Karls will provide commentary on the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on the claim adjudication process. With a more comprehensive understanding of the underlying drivers of the industry’s financial condition, MPL company leaders can be aware of the particular metrics to watch in anticipation of eventual changes to the market.

He has achieved extraordinary successes, in the face of seemingly impossible challenges, including daunting budget and schedule constraints, while pushing the state-of-the-art in technology. Muirhead shares his success and advocates for creating an environment that takes advantage of and maximizes "the skill, integrity, and personal ownership of literally every member of the team."

He specializes in medical professional liability and has assisted numerous clients with a large variety of actuarial needs, financial reporting issues, rating agency matters, and pricing and rating projects

Nick Kalm

Nick Kalm has spent his entire 30+ year career helping a wide variety of organizations successfully anticipate and manage a vast number of issues and crises. He founded Reputation Partners, LLC, a Chicago-based communications consultancy, in 2002 and currently leads the firm.

 

Katherine Ehmann

Katherine A. Ehmann

Katherine A. Ehmann is the chief financial officer and senior vice president of OMS National Insurance Company, RRG. Ms. Ehmann has more than 25years of experience with the company after earning her Bachelor of Business degree in accounting at Dominican University. 

Michele Johns

Michele J. Johns

Michele J. Johns practiced privately in the area of litigation, from 1990-1999, ultimately defending healthcare providers in MPL actions. She joined Indiana University Health as associate general counsel, and over the next 21 years, held a variety of positions including vice president and chief risk officer.

Brian Muirhead

Brian Muirhead is a leader in the field of deep space exploration. Currently, he is chief architect for the Mars Sample Return campaign, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s effort to study and develop the key technologies needed to return samples from the surface of Mars, a goal never before attempted.

Dr. Medows is the Executive VP of Population Health at Providence St. Joseph Health. She also currently serves as a member of the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee to make recommendations to the U.S. Secretary of Health on current and future physician payment models.

Prior, he served as CEO of Care Innovations, a joint venture of Intel and GE Healthcare.
